Hymns for Heinz
Solo piano improvisations by Ron Klusmeier
MK005 CD
$20
“Play for me, Ronald.” As a child, I remember him loving to lie back, close his eyes, and listen to me play the piano – always encouraging, always so very appreciative. One time, during one of those session (after I had started to ‘reach’ further out in my playing, beginning to experiment with improvisation) he said, “That’s pretty nice, but I really like it best when I can hear the melody.” As I worked at preparing this recording, I knew I just couldn’t play an entire album without ‘being me’, but… there’s still lots of melody here, Dad.
He knew he was ill when he received ‘Hymns for Minnie,’ my 1999 recording of improvisations based on familiar ‘heritage hymns.’ Immediately, after listening to it, he called and said with much excitement, “Ronald, my boy, you made one for me!”. Well… this one really is.
It’s also for Community Home Nursing & Hospice of St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Our entire extended family will always be grateful for the loving care and assistance received from this remarkable organization. – Ron Klusmeier
