A ‘new tradition’ has evolved on Christmas Eve at Knox United Church in Parksville, British Columbia. During the evening in this Vancouver Island community, people are invited to ‘drop in’ (at their convenience) over a 90 minute period for a time of reflection and meditation. Some stay for 15 minutes; others for much longer. The sanctuary is lit only with candles and there is no spoken liturgy.

Marie-Andrée and I provide gentle musical improvisations based on the melodies of familiar carols. Individuals, families, and friends decide when they wish to come forward to receive Communion from my friend and colleague, Rev. Foster Freed. In response to many requests, we are pleased to share some of the music of this deeply moving evening. In the midst of a busy season, consider finding a quiet place—to listen and to ponder…
