Jan Laurie

Jan Laurie has studied different styles of drumming and percussion, beginning as a percussionist in school bands. As an adult she has been drawn to hand drumming through the appeal of the African rhythms. She has also studied Afro/Cuban styles on congas and bongos. Most recently the Celtic bodhran has been included to spice the repertoire of beats she offers to enhance the music of worship. The sensitive use of percussion instruments in worship has been an interest of Jan’s for decades. She and her husband Bill, have been church musicians and song leaders since the 1970s.

When not drumming Jan can be found in her home based studio. For the past four years she has been creating fabric art stoles for clergy around the world. Through her web site worship leaders of more than 12 denominations order and enjoy wearing her work.

Believing that the space in which we live can also be holy ground, Jan also has a business helping homeowners redesign their homes using what they already own. Proper placement of furniture, lighting, art and accessories using design principles can have a profound effect on all levels of how we feel in our surroundings.

Jan’s artistic nature in both the visual and musical realms make her a creative resource in the church today.
