Barb Roberts

Barb Campbell

Barb Roberts is the secretary at Ron and Christina’s home congregation of Knox United Church, Parksville.

With so many Knox members having found their way to Parksville from other, perhaps not so pleasant, places, Barb is one of the few true Islanders in the congregation. She was born and raised in the countryside outside of Nanaimo but has spent time in Victoria, Prince George, Campbell River and Nanoose Bay, before finally settling in Parksville in 1997.

Barb has a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a Major in Social Work, from the University of Victoria and worked as a Social Worker, handling the adoption caseload, while living in Prince George. She worked as a receptionist in a large dental clinic in Campbell River for seven years and after moving to Nanoose Bay she ran a daycare out of her home for nine years, so that she could be at home with her own small children. Dealing with the daily ups and downs of daycare prepared her well for her life as a church secretary!

Barb has worshipped at Knox since 1983 and started working as the church secretary there in 1993. Since that time the congregation has shown steady growth and what started out as a part-time job is now a full-time position, with an ever changing and expanding job description. Working at Knox is, to say the least, never boring! Barb is thankful for the privilege of working with such a generous, loving, spirit guided congregation; and with a staff team which is visionary, dynamic and extremely hardworking, bringing to their work commitment, expertise and unfailing care.

Barb’s activities outside of the life of the church (is there life outside of the church?!) include Curves, walking, movie viewing, reading, and caring for her mother, who is in her 90s and lives in Nanaimo.
