Our New Home
We are excited to announce that Musiklus will soon be moving to a new home! We are constructing a beautiful log building on a 4-acre wooded parcel near Parksville on Vancouver Island. The building will house a creative suite for composing and writing, a recording studio, and production facilities for music printing and CD & DVD duplication.
Our studio and office is being built by Norse Log Homes at their construction yard in Lantzville, BC – just about 15 minutes down the Island Highway from our location. All of the log work will be completed at Norse’s site. The structure will then be disassembled and trucked to our property where it will be resurrected!
The whole process is very exciting and we continue to be moved by the pride the builders clearly demonstrate in their work. In these times of mass production, it is pure joy to watch the craftwork which is going into the project. Everything from the hand peeling of the raw logs to the delicate hand chiseling and fitting is simply a delight to observe – to say nothing of the artistic chain saw work!
We’ll add to the photos below in the coming weeks so that subscribers and visitors to the website can be kept up-to-date on our progress.
P.S. There is one of the finest blackberry patches we have ever seen on Norse’s lot. In between watching the studio grow, we’ve picked enough blackberries to last the year!
OCTOBER 26 PHOTO ADDITIONS:
RK and the long-awaited building permit.
Excavator arrives, clears, and digs.
Footings frames are built and footings poured.
Foundation completed.
Windows arrive (early!) and Hi-Rigger crew removes dead, dying, and dangerous trees (45 of them!) from the property.
OCTOBER 27 PHOTO ADDITIONS:
Three photos added today show the studio’s log work approaching completion. This is being done at the Norse Log Homes site. The headers over windows and door are nearing completion and the beams are now located at their positions waiting to be carved and notched.
The first of the three photos is a shot of the front of the studio with the front door and adjacent window openings prepared. Aboriginal artist Bill Helin is building and hand-carving what will be a spectacular front door.
The second in this series shows the enormous window which will look out into our woods and which will provide a truly beautiful view for singers and instrumentalists.
The third of today’s photos was taken from inside the studio, looking toward the front door. Do I sound excited yet??? RK
NOVEMBER 9 PHOTO ADDITIONS:
Monday, November 2 was an exciting day. The logs and crew arrived in the morning and worked all day on our property. The 14 photos added today show the progress as it unfolded for three days until all of the log work was completed. Next: the roof!
