Lyrics:

How can what happened long ago
in a far off place, in a distant time,
have meaning for the lives we live;
give cadence to the songs we rhyme?

How can we people come to faith;
we who conquer outer and inner space?
Our systems have no need for God,
we make ourselves an alien race.

Each year when Christmas bells ring out
and the story old is told and told again,
it often seems an empty thing,
and living can itself seem vain.

Though people blow their worlds apart,
I wish for this scene to seem more real.
Let light around the manger shine,
let love from in the manger heal.
