Lyrics:
God, how majestic is your name;
the earth and sky adore you,
the mouths of babies sing your praise
and children dance before you!
When I look up and see the stars
and think of space unending,
I marvel that you come and care
– us with your love befriending.
You lift us to the very height
of your creative likeness,
(just as you raised your son from death
to Easter’s wide awakeness).
Author / Composer Comments
• Author Fred Kaan, from his book The Only Earth We Know (Stainer & Bell / Hope Publishing Co., 1999, page 106): “This is one of several attempts to write free metric paraphrases of some of the Psalms. This one was included in the 1974 edition of Cantate Domino, the ecumenical hymnbook originally published under auspices of the World Student Christian Federation (from 1924 onwards), but subsequently ‘taken over’ by the World Council of Churches.”
